The Zubcevic Lab

We opened our doors in January 2020 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

Since then, we have been hard at work to determine how neuronal cells maintain the delicate ionic balance that allows them to function properly. We are interested in what happens when ion homeostasis machinery malfunctions and how this leads to neuronal pathogenesis.

Our work is rooted in structural biology and biophysics. We have access to a brand new cryo-EM facility on our campus as well as several national cryo-EM centers. Our lab is fully equipped for cutting-edge work with mammalian membrane proteins - from structure to function.

While we love our biophysical work, we are very keen to expand into neurobiology in order to be able to fully study the roles of ion channels and transporters in neuronal function.

Our Ethos

We welcome everyone. We strive to do excellent science humanely.
